What We Do

Fiddes Racing specialises in purchasing, ownership and breeding of elite racehorses.

We have achieved fantastic success in a short period of time, utilising modern methods in a very traditional industry and we are proud to stand our first stallion, Albaasil, in North Yorkshire, giving Northern breeders access to a top class stallion by sire of sires, Dansili.

Albaasil will stand his first full season in North Yorkshire in 2017

Stallion

Albassil has the looks and temperament to be every bit as successful at stud as his own sire, Dansili

Albassil was the top priced Dansili yearling colt in 2009, costing 320,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1. He is a lovely dark black horse with flawless confirmation, a fantastic walk and an excellent temperament. All our research shows he will be every bit as successful at stud as his own sire, Dansili. On the race track, he was Timeform rated 121, equal to Zoffany and ahead of Delegator 119 and Requinto 110. With an optimum race distance of one mile, Albaasil displayed a sharp turn of foot, something which he has passed on to his first crop foals. We welcome walk-in mares and offer seasonal boarding of mares during the covering season offsite.

Breeding

We provide full support to Albaasil, and to ensure he has the best possible chance of producing future champions we have our own band of well related broodmares, including black type winners.

We currently own seven of Albaasil’s first crop foals, and have hand-picked several high-class broodmares to provide additional support in 2017. All our mares foal on site and from the day they are born our foals are provided with the best possible care to prepare them for their future as a racehorse.

Horses In Training

Fiddes Racing currently owns a number of horses in training including Group winner Moviesta, listed winner Easton Angel, Listed placed Glen Moss, and several promising handicappers such as Fendale. As Albaasil’s first progeny hit the race track in 2018, we are so confident in his abilities as a stallion that we will gradually phase out our racehorses by other stallions, only keeping the Saturday horses.

Natural Horsemanship

We strongly believe in the methods of natural horsemanship techniques in all our interactions with our foals, mares, yearlings, horses in training and stallion. Our mares foal naturally and are observed using state-of-the-art camera systems, only receiving assistance if it is absolutely necessary. Our foals are well socialised with other mares and foals, once weaned they are encouraged to roam and gallop around the large paddocks to naturally build their physiques and enjoyment of racing each other. Our yearlings are broken only when physically and mentally ready and after months of building them up on the treadmill. Each horse is brought along at their own pace and begin in open lunge pens where they are not stressed or isolated from other horses. Our horses in training are given regular breaks so they can recover from the physical and mental strain of being in training. While on breaks, they are turned out in selective groups of compatible horses replicating their natural environment and behaviour in the wild.

During the winter break, our horses come home so we can let them down and remove their shoes so their feet can grow and harden. We encourage their coats to get as woolly as possible and let them enjoy rolling in the mud in the paddocks, they will then come back into their coats naturally as the seasons change and we increase their work in preparation for their return to training.

Our stallion, Albaasil, is stabled in a barn along with fillies, colts and geldings, with lots of social interaction and turnout alongside other horses. The life of a thoroughbred stallion is normally very solitary which creates a heightened excitement when encountering other horses; our environment and approach means that Albaasil is as easy to manage as any other horse and he is exceptionally professional in the covering barn.
