Albaasil, was knocked down to Shadwell for 320,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2009, the highest price paid that year for a colt by his sire, Dansili. He began his career with Sir Michael Stoute, who saddled him to finish second on his sole start at two in a 6 furlong maiden at Yarmouth.
Returning at three, he broke his maiden over 8 furlongs at Yarmouth in comfortable fashion in a maiden which is known for producing Group horses. Albaasil was held up and cruised through the race before demonstrating his trademark finishing speed in the closing stages to win comfortably.
“Albaasil looked in a different league every step of the way, he quickened away in a style reminiscent of his sire Dansili.”
James Willoughby
His third start Newmarket in a very competitive 3 year old handicap saw Albaasil up against a field of far more experienced rivals. Ridden with supreme confidence by Richard Hills his undoubted class showed, as he was switched off at the back of the field before cruising past his rivals without coming off the bridle. He absolutely bolted up and again showed exceptional speed in the final furlong, finishing 3 lengths clear of multiple Group winner, Dimension.
His final start at 3 was at Royal Ascot in the valuable Deloitte Handicap, again racing from off the pace he burst clear of the field but on the rain softened ground was unable to peg back the winner Military Attack – then known as Rave – an eventual multiple Group 1 winner.
At four, Albaasil switched to the care of Doug Watson in Dubai and made an instant impact at the Carnival, finishing second in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap on his first start. Dropping back to 7f he was again positioned towards the rear whilst all of the other placed horses were up with the pace. He cut through the field in his usual style only to lose by a short head on the bob in a photo finish.
He followed this up in similarly impressive fashion finishing 2nd in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort, on only his 6th start he demonstrated his usual high cruising speed, travelling like the best horse before quickening to hit the front too soon to be beaten by Viscount Nelson by half a length.
After 6 races Albaasil had finished 1st or 2nd in all of his starts and had rapidly risen through the ranks, demonstrating his class by running against and beating far more experienced rivals.
``Albaasil is a top class horse and he knows he is, he has a lot of presence. He is one of those horses that you can just look at and tell that he is a very talented animal, he is a superstar.”
Doug Watson Trainer
After suffering an injury, Albaasil raced twice more in Dubai finishing a respectable 7th in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta, followed by 5th in the Group 2 Al Rashidiya.
Albaasil began his stud duties in 2015 at Longdon Stud, he was purchased privately in March of 2016 and relocated to Moor End Stud, where he demonstrates his class and professionalism in the covering barn.
He retired with an Official Rating of 115 and a highest Timeform rating of 121. He defeated 22 Group & Listed Winners in his career including 7 Gr.1 winners.
``Albaasil is a fantastic model, he has exceptional looks and temperament, with an outstanding walk and confirmation, traits which he has stamped his first crop with.
We are delighted that all of his first crop mares are returning in 2017, he will cover a significantly increased book of over 60 mares, including many Black Type performers.”Ritchie Fiddes

“Albaasil is guaranteed to be ending up in Group company so easily did he win this, storming away from a useful bunch; he has impressed with his gears, including a sharp turn of foot.”
